Not the best thing I’ve ever written, but here’s what I emailed to Viacom:
To whom it may concern,
I’m writing to you today to request Comedy Central remove Daniel Tosh, and his show Tosh.0, from the air permanently (not just cancel his upcoming season, but to end all reruns as well, especially those that contain the clips I discuss below).
I’m sure you’re aware of the incidence he had recently at a stand-up show that has since gone viral, and I understand that his actions outside of his show may have little or no say in how the network handles him, but what’s distressing is that he’s aired segments on his show that are incredibly disturbing and feed into the problem we have with rape in our society. Last year, he aired an actual clip of a teenage boy being violently raped by another teenage boy wielding a sex toy, and called the act a “prank.” This is something that should never, ever have been on the air. Not only is it a disturbing act of violence, but it majorly violates the privacy of the person who was raped in this instance. Then just a few months ago, he aired another segment in which he called on viewers to sneak up on women and grope their stomachs in order for them to feel ashamed about their body fat. While there are many, many problems with this, I’ll stick to focusing on one: This is sexual harassment. He’s calling on his viewers to not only violate womens’ personal space, but to film it and publicly post their reactions on the internet because a woman offended at being violated is hilarious, in his eyes.
All of this is absolutely disgusting, and as I said above, feeds into the high rate of rape and sexual assault we deal with in our society. Daniel Tosh is actively condoning rape with his television show.
Please permanently remove him from the air, so he no longer has to spoil a channel that hosts some of my favorite, most intelligent and self-aware comedy shows.
Sincerely,
Feel free to use it if you can’t write your own quick letter. I selected “Viewer Services” under the subject menu, then Comedy Central in the dropdown box next to it.
And sign the petition as well! That takes only a few seconds.
